Secretary of the California Labor & Workforce Meeting

BSP recently met with Natalie Palugyai, Secretary of the California Labor & Workforce Development Agency, the CA Workforce Development Board, SEIU-USWW, LBA Realty and ABM to showcase BSP's workplace training and other educational programming. Discussions were held on how governmental entities, unions, and corporate partners can come together through innovative partnership models to meet industry needs while advancing economic opportunity for property service workers.

BSP's holistic programming model approach includes workforce development, immigrant integration, and community advancement. Partnerships with our valued labor and industry supporters help uplift BSP to offer career and education programs that enable workers’ personal and professional success; and also strengthen their communities & families.

During the function, a Green Janitors Education Program course was offered to the property service workers in attendance. In partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council-Los Angeles (USGBC-LA), the Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater Los Angeles (BOMA-GLA), and the Service Employees International Union-United Service Workers West (SEIU-USWW), BSP developed the Green Janitor Education Program in 2014.

The program is a qualified USGBC program through which janitors are accredited in green building cleaning practices to help meet the latest energy, water, and environmental sustainability standards. The GJEP curriculum addresses energy efficiency, recycling, waste management, water conservation and other sustainable and green cleaning practices.

The GJEP initiatives are under BSP’s high-road programs, which are part of the California Workforce Development Board’s High Road Training Partnership, which is funded through California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health, and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities.
