Device Giveaway Celebration

Property service workers in LA received free Surface Go2 devices from BSP!

Janitors are frontline workers who play a critical role in protecting the health of occupants of workplaces across the nation. The recognition of these workers moved into the forefront during the onset of the pandemic. To address this, Building Skills Partnership and SEIU-United Service Workers West created an Infectious Disease Certification program to adapt to equip janitors with the knowledge to protect their own health & safety, and also building occupants.

In the Spring of 2022, Building Skills Partnership celebrated 1,000 janitors graduating from the Infectious Disease Certification program!

San Diego property service workers from Allied Universal received their free devices from BSP, helping them gain digital skills and access

To recognize this milestone, BSP gave away 100 Surface Go2 devices to the property service workers in its programs, helping program participants gain digital access and skills. Without access to a computer, many property service workers are at a disadvantage to find information, socially integrate, and fully participate in their community. The janitors who received the devices were extremely grateful.

A Rising Realty property service worker in Los Angeles was grateful for her free device from BSP, granting her digital access.

This was a momentous milestone for janitors who have completed this innovative education model. The Infectious Disease Certification programs exemplifies BSP’s high-road programs, designed to provide equity, sustainability, and job quality through skills strategies created to support economically and resilient communities.

BSP’s high-road programs are part of the California Workforce Development Board’s High Road Training Partnership, which is funded through the California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improvising public health, and the environment -- particularly in disadvantaged communities.

“I'm extremely grateful for winning this laptop. I've spent countless hours in my school's library because I did not have a computer accessible to me.” - Carmen, BSP Participant in Orange County
