LAX Worker to be honored in D.C.
Erica Morton is an LAX worker and BSP Peer Trainer. Working for G2 since 2015, as both a Cabin Service Agent and currently a Customer Service Agent, she thoroughly enjoys the work she does at the airport.
Erica became involved in BSP’s Peer Trainer Program in April 2022. She likes helping others and getting to know people at a more personal level. “You never know people’s background and where they come from, what they like. I like learning about them and what their experiences have been like.”
In May 2024, Erica will be in Washington D.C. to accept her role on the National Skills Coalition’s College Work Student Advisory Council, which is a learning and advisory group made up of 8-10 diverse learners who are short-term, career-focused programs at community colleges.
This representation of college access supports BSP’s mission of providing career and education opportunities that enable property service workers’ personal and professional success.
At the annual Skills Summit, she will engage in an event that is focused on advancing equity and breaking down the systemic barriers that prevent too many Americans from accessing high-quality, inclusive skills training leading to good jobs and careers.
In 2023, Erica completed BSP’s Aviation Career Exploration Course at West LA College, a 32-hour course specifically designed for LAX workers, that helped students learn about educational pathways to careers in the Aviation industry.
Through the Aviation Career Exploration course, Erica learned about the Avionics program at West LA College and signed up to enroll in the courses. She will engage in the Aviation Maintenance Training program, a 2-year and 8-week continuous program, during the 2024 Spring Semester. She is pursuing a certification as an Airframe and PowerPlant Mechanic in the hopes of becoming employed by an Airline.
Erica also earned an A.A. in Child Development from El Camino College in California.
In 2022 Erica joined the Building Skills Partnership Peer Trainer Program. Through this program, Passenger Service Workers had the opportunity to learn leadership and technological skills while assisting instructors and workers during the Emergency Preparedness Training classes that are offered to LAX workers.
In her time as a Peer Trainer, Erica has excelled above expectations, always willing to learn and take on more responsibilities. She has helped train new Peer Trainers as they join the program and takes an active role in leading and facilitating modules and activities during the Emergency Preparedness Training classes.
Erica is a motivated and energetic individual. She is dependable and always willing to help and grow. Her greatest joy is her four-year-old daughter Aubrey, who inspires her to continue learning and to pursue her dream.
