Industry Partner Spotlight: Servicon

Building Skills Partnership (BSP) is proud to partner with industry employers who support the professionalization of a certified workforce through an industry career lattice. Together with BSP, Servicon is an exemplary leader of a labor-management partnership that facilitates this industry career lattice to support employee training, upskilling, and certification while being responsive to the needs of industries, the economy, and the employees.

Servicon’s purpose is to elevate the industry and provide healthy environments for people to thrive. Their mission is to provide exemplary environmental, custodial, and maintenance services for complex facilities.

Recently, BSP’s staff joined Servicon property service workers in Los Angeles for a graduation of the Floor Care Certification Program! BSP’s Floor Care Program offers workers a foundational knowledge of floor care concepts within the janitorial industry.

The Floor Care Program, created in partnership with industry representatives, offers an 8-hour classroom curriculum in addition to a 3-week on the job training. The aim of BSP's Floor Care Program is to provide workers information on the crucial role of a floor care worker in a commercial property, as well as the use of proper health and safety practices when handling floor care machinery and chemicals on different types of surfaces.

Rosa Terriquez, Servicon Floor Care Technician & Peer Trainer

"I had a great experience and would like to thank BSP for overseeing the certification training, and I would also like to thank Servicon for giving [us] the opportunity to be in this program,” said Rosa Terriquez, Servicon employee, and BSP Program Participant & Peer Trainer.

As a BSP Peer Trainer who served as a mentor during the on-the-job training component,  Rosa served a critical role by training a fellow program participant in the comprehensive certification program.

“I greatly benefited from the formal in-class Floor Care training and wanted to make sure I gave my peers the same knowledge. As a leader, I really liked to share my experience with my colleagues,” said Rosa.

The Floor Care program is a part of BSP’s high-road programs. These are part of the California Workforce Development Board’s High Road Training Partnership, which is funded through California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health, and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities.

BSP is grateful to industry partner, Servicon for their commitment to the success of this unique program for property service workers!
