Workforce Development

 
 

ADVANCE Vocational ESL

The workplace Vocational ESL and Job Skills program reaches over 500 workers at the workplace annually. Classes are held during work time, ensuring high attendance, and a 95% graduation rate from this intensive 70 hour program.

 

Green Janitor Education Program

At the forefront of building operations are janitors who are critical in reducing energy and water consumption through operations and maintenance. This program provides hands-on energy management and green cleaning training earning janitors a seat at the sustainability table while reducing the carbon footprint of buildings.

 

Vocational Training

English language acquisition is crucial for many immigrant workers to achieve upward mobility and to successfully integrate into their communities. BSP offers year-round ESL instruction at workers’ local union offices throughout California.

 

Digital Literacy and Blended Learning

In today’s uncertain political and economic landscape, it is especially critical to expand opportunities for immigrant communities to include digital access and skills. BSP’s Digital Literacy and Blended Learning program offers instruction to close the digital divide for workers.

Citizenship and Civic Engagement

BSP provides citizenship opportunities to support and guide immigrant workers in their journey to become naturalized citizens.

 

Financial Capability

Making an average of $30,000 per year, many workers in the low-wage industries live paycheck to paycheck without emergency or retirement savings. BSP’s Financial Literacy program offers training and 1-on-1 coaching to help workers meet their financial goals and achieve economic stability.

 

English as a Second Language

Community Advancement

 

Health and Wellness

To minimize accidents and injuries, participants in BSP’s Health and Wellness program learn how to prevent exposure to chemicals and human pathogens, and avoid slips and falls. General health prevention on topics such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases are included.

 

Parent University

BSP’s Parent Education and Engagement program aims to improve educational opportunities for the children of low-wage workers. Through a series of educational workshops, museum trips, and college visits, the program is training a cohort of workers to be advocates for their children’s education.

 

The Mike Garcia Scholarship

The Mike Garcia Scholarship relieves the financial burden for first-generation, low-income students and children of low-wage workers to achieve their dreams of a higher education.
